Nicotine is an alkaloid found in the nightshade family of plants (Solanaceae), predominantly in tobacco and coca, and in lower quantities in tomato, potato, eggplant (aubergine), and green pepper. Nicotine has been found to constitute approximately 0.6-3% of dry weight of tobacco,[1] with biosynthesis taking place in the roots, and accumulating in the leaves. It functions as an antiherbivore chemical, being a potent neurotoxin with particular specificity to insects; therefore nicotine was widely used as an insecticide in the past, and currently nicotine derivatives such as imidacloprid continue to be widely used.

In low concentrations (an average cigarette yields about 1 mg of absorbed nicotine), the substance acts as a stimulant in mammals and is one of the main factors responsible for the dependence-forming properties of tobacco smoking. According to the American Heart Association, "Nicotine addiction has historically been one of the hardest addictions to break." The pharmacological and behavioral characteristics that determine tobacco addiction are similar to those that determine addiction to drugs such as heroin and cocaine.[2]
Tobacco smoking is the act of burning dried or cured leaves of the tobacco plant and inhaling the smoke for pleasure, for ritualistic or social purposes, self-medication, as well as to satisfy a physiological dependence on nicotine. Tobacco use by Native Americans throughout North and South America dates back to 2000BC. The practice was brought back to Europe by the crew of Christopher Columbus. Tobacco smoking took hold in Spain and was introduced to the rest of the world, via trade. Tobacco is an agricultural product processed from the fresh leaves of plants in the genus Nicotiana. Tobacco has been growing on the northern continents since about 6000 BC and began being used by native cultures at about 3000 BC. It has been smoked in one form or another since about 2000 BC. There are pictoral drawings of ancient Mayans smoking crude cigars from 1400 BC.

Tobacco smoke contains nicotine and harmane (a MAO inhibitor), which combined give rise to addictive stimulant and euphoriant properties. The effect of nicotine in first time or irregular users is an increase in alertness and memory, and mild euphoria. Nicotine also disturbs metabolism and suppresses appetite. This is because nicotine, like many stimulants, increases blood sugar.

Medical research has determined that chronic tobacco smoking can lead to many health problems, particularly lung cancer, emphysema, and cardiovascular disease.[1][2]

Below Average

The film is yet another love story – a poor boy falling in love with a rich girl and finally marrying his love.

Story:

Tirupathi (Nitin) is the eldest son of Chandramohan He has a younger brother. Tirupathi whiles away all his time doing nothing. He keeps pestering his father to give him one lakh rupees so that he can start some business. But his father refuses, as he does not have faith in him.

Tirupathi sees Priya (Sada) in a temple and instantly falls in love with her. She is the sister of Guru (Sayaji Shinde), a rich businessman. Tirupathi manages to win her love but when Guru gives him 25 lakhs, he agrees to forego his love and forget Priya.

The hero then buys up some ‘acres’ of land and starts a big industry. The hero takes another 10 lakhs from Guru for telling Priya that he is no longer in love with her. He becomes a big business magnate overnight. The rest of the story is how Tirupathi finally convinces Guru and wins the hand of his sister Priya.

Performance:

Nitin is young and energetic. He has not lost his boyish charm. He comes across well in the dance scenes. But his is yet to grow up as an actor. Sada plays her role of a glamour doll with ease. There is also a lot of skin show by her.

However, there is hardly any chemistry between Nitin and Sada and this has affected their performance to a considerable extent.

Sayaji Shinde plays another powerful character but is reduced to a helpless man when confronted by Nitin (just like in Dubai Seenu and Shankardada Zindabad). Ali and Venu Madhav appear briefly. The rest of the star cast adds up to the story in a small way.

The music is okay and a couple of songs are good. Two songs have some peppy music and Nitin has danced well in the song – Ammi Ammi Chumma Dede. The other song that is okay is ‘Aa Aa Aa aa aa…’.

The film is yet another addition to the genre of love stories. The film runs very slow in the first half and raises a lot of expectations in the interval bang. But the second half also runs slowly. The film story is quite predicable and there are not too many twists and turns.

Ali and Venu Madhav’s brief comedy in a bar manages to raise some laughs. Venu Madhav orders Chicken 65 and when the bearer serves the dish, he quips- “I ordered for Chicken ‘65’ and he has brought only ‘five’ (pieces)”. This raises some laughs in the theatre.

The film has all the usual ingredients – love, action, comedy and sentiment. But the end result is just average.
